Canning

So I've always felt that canning was an old person thing to do and that I'd try it when I was retired. It never occurred to me how practical it is for someone with a garden. Lucky for me, my fresh, young friend Michelle helped teach me the ways of canning. :) THANK YOU MICHELLE! It was so much fun and now we are super stoked about more food storage too! Here are pics of our "domesticity".
Look at those beautiful tomatoes from our garden!
So apparently you aren't supposed to can salsa, you should pressure cook it. Well Ryan made some pretty sweet salsa which we canned, so I hope we don't die.
Yummy peaches!
More salsa courtesy of my cute hubby. I've also done plain tomatoes. I have to admit it was kinda fun canning and I am definitely going to do it again next year!!!

cool we have just gotten into it in the last year and since then we have done a tone, it is soooo much more healthy and tasty.

my mother-in-law has been canning salsa for YEARS and we've been eating it for just as long (okay, randy has, at least) and we're just fine.

So, you might already know this, but my Nana just told me so I'm telling you because I didn't know. She told me this when gave me some canned peaches. She said to store them in the dark. If you don't then the color will change as will the flavor. I'm not sure if it's an old wives tale, but ours our in the dark.

that is so cool, I've actually wanted to learn canning for about a year now. I didn't last year because I had massive morning sickness, and then we found out we were moving here. and you can't take canned goods overseas. But when we come back in four years do you mind teaching me?

I got infected by the canning bug this year. I tried to juice just about everything in sight. No worries on the salsa most likely. The old canning methods work, it is just that the resulting safety of the food isn't guaranteed. The peaches look so yummy.
